If you could define a restless soul , somebody creative with a desire to keep on growing in the national music scene , in Europe and anything that comes in his way… It would be Malaga born John Vermont. This autumn will be crucial for him, releasing up to three new tracks (under production from Ed is Dead), one a month. The title of the first track is “before the rain” and will be published on Irregular.

But before that we need to stop and pay great attention to this sensational official video of an acoustic version of the track “evanescent” produced by Mansión Clapham and made by Iván Sanchez Alonso. The filmmaker from Madrid tells us a story with images, of a vicious circle, where innocence, temptation, love, lust, reality and fantasy are the mixed sensations that can be heard and seen in the song that lasts just a little bit more than 3 minutes.

Not of any less importance. This new version of “Evanescent” (the original was released nearly a year ago on Seven Villas) was created alongside John Vermont using only small percussion instruments, guitars that he inherited from his father, synths, fx pedals… and of course John’s envious voice.

Si existe un alma inquieta, creativa y con ganas de no parar de crecer en la escena musical de este país, Europa o la que se le ponga por delante… es la del malagueño John Vermont. Este próximo otoño será crucial para él, lanzando hasta tres canciones nuevas (bajo la producción de Ed is Dead), una por mes. La primera llevará por título “Before the Rain” y será publicada por Irregular.

Pero antes nos paramos y prestamos mucha atención a este sensacional vídeo-clip de la versión acústica del tema “Evanescent” producido por Mansión Clapham y realizado por Iván Sanchez Alonso. El filmmaker madrileño nos relata con imágenes un círculo vicioso donde inocencia, tentación, amor, lujuria, realidad y fantasía se entremezclan en los poco más de tres minutos que dura la canción.

No menos importante. Esta nueva versión de “Evanescent” (la original fue lanzada por Seven Villas hace casi un año) ha sido creada íntegramente por el propio John Vermont usando únicamente pequeños instrumentos de percusión, guitarras heredadas de su padre, sintes, pedaleras… y por supuesto su envidiable voz.

“John Vermont’s music moves me to a mysterious world where dreams are merged with reality. Everything has two sides, exactly the same as a Wonderturner, revealing the inconvenience to have achieved everything we wanted. In this video I wanted to tell a story that deals with dreams, wishes and temptations and Of how these entangle in reality .

Inside this dream world we find three forces fighting each other, three repelling while at the same time attracting. “Innocence, temptation and malice”.

“I really enjoy the concept of creating new tracks for some labels and thinking thoroughly in the working process. But I also love the idea of giving away royalty free music, this way more great people can leave their mark on it, sometimes with such impressive results like Iván Sanchez did creating this video.

The song itself was composed in an unconventional way, it is an unmastered and unmixed cover of the original track published on Seven Villas the last year. A kind of a home-made-demo created on a wonderful afternoon at my father’s recording studio in Malaga (Spain). I played small percussion instruments, sampled some of his many guitars, processed the voice and synths with guitar pedals, amps, etc.

One of those funny evenings surrounded by “hardware” and not the “plugins” you can use on Logic. One of those sessions where you start making things without really thinking what you’re doing, not worrying at all, just focused on having a good time, letting creativity flow…

Honestly that’s the way this new version came out. Iván listened to it, he was thrilled and told me: ‘Would you be brave enough to let me do something?’ I said yes of course, and now look at this video, it is in insane!

The truth is that I’d love to feel always between two stools in terms of that I want to sell my original songs but at the same time give some demos for free . There is nothing that I like more than working with other artists, no matter their profession… I’m looking forward to doing some work soon for the cinema industry. Clear enough?!”

“La música de John Vermont me traslada un misterioso mundo en el que los sueños se fusionan con la realidad. Todo tiene dos caras como un Taumatropo y desvela la contrariedad al haber alcanzado aquello que deseábamos. En este videoclip he querido contar una historia que trata de sueños, deseos y tentaciones y de cómo estos enredan el ámbito de la realidad. Dentro de este mundo onírico se desarrollan tres fuerzas que luchan entre sí, que se repelen a la vez que se atraen. La inocencia, la tentación y la maldad”.

“Me gusta mucho el concepto de editar temas a través de sellos y pensar muy bien en los procesos con los que vas a editar tu material. Pero también me encanta la idea de regalar material completamente libre derechos para que otras personas dejen su huella en ellos, y este ha sido el caso con Iván Sánchez.

Es una versión totalmente fuera de estereotipos de composición, sin un master ni una mezcla profesional, es en toda regla una maqueta, algo casero hecho en una tarde maravillosa en los estudios que tiene mi padre en Málaga, con instrumentos de pequeña percusión, sampleos de varias de sus guitarras, procesos de voces y sintes con pedales de guitarra, amplificadores, previos…

Una de esas tardes divertidas entre “cacharros eléctricos”, “no con plugings de Logic”, una de esas tardes que procesas y procesas sin saber muy bien lo que estás haciendo, despreocupándote de todo, enfocado solo en pasártelo bien, dejando fluir la creatividad…

Y salió esta versión. Iván la escuchó y le encantó, y me dijo, ¿me dejarías hacer algo? y le dije, pues claro… y mira qué maravilla….

La verdad es que me gustaría estar siempre en estas dos aguas, vender ediciones y regalar maquetas. No hay cosa que más me guste que colaborar con artistas (tengo unas ganas de cine… ahí lo dejo caer)”
