Alexis Tyrel es uno de los productores / DJ más destacados de la escena holandesa de lo que llevamos de siglo. Este artista natural de Eindhoven es además amo y señor de Lessismore, discográfica que fundó en 2003 y donde ha publicado varios discos ya. Ahora arranca el 2018 presentándonos nuevo álbum, el titulado “I Know You Know I Know”, un LP plagado de buenos beats sintéticos y grooves muy vacilones. El título desde luego sirve como aviso.
Este nuevo largo se enciende con el delicado pero penetrante “Consuming Time”, pianos y sonidos discordantes que aparecen y desaparecen de un modo muy sutil. La cosa se pone más seria y contundente con “Challenging the Impossible” donde la rítmica se endurece. Asistimos a un constante ataque entre bajos, cellos y stabs de índole dub. Los sintes, muy atmosféricos y distantes, intervienen también de repente e incluso emulan voces. Acordes más amables en “Einzelganger” y “Timing out Zeus”. Eso sí, la chicha, las buenas pulsaciones no faltarán en ninguno de los dos casos.
Momento para “Floating Point”. En él Alexis retoma la senda de la elegancia y la sencillez. Sintes voladores envenenados por una buena línea de bajo y un tempo bastante marcado. Un puntito más de luz y velocidad en “Surfing Submerge”, sin duda alguna uno de los temas más divertidos de todo el disco ¡Y justo a mitad de recorrido! Acto seguido “Mansion at Oceandrive”, donde se mantiene el pulso anterior solo que esta vez arrecian los arpegios y un sinte tristón a modo de violín. Serán en cambio una percusión animada y unos acordes sincopados los que tomen la vanguardia de “At the Beach”, eso antes de ser superados por una melodía lastimera.
Este nuevo LP se cierra con el misterioso y cromático “Starlight of the Arabian Moonshine”, corte original que luego vendrá remezclado –como bonus track, es la guinda del pastel de Tyrel- por el británico y residente en Barcelona Funk D’ Void. El de Glasgow se ensaña con las melodías (resultan trepidantes) y los sintes espaciales.
El reto de “I Know You Know I Know” es el de seducir a quienes lo escuchan. Un ejercicio tanto mental como físico, porque si, todos y cada uno de los 10 temas que forman el disco se pueden bailar. Y muy bien por cierto.

Alexis Tyrel is a DJ and producer from Eindhoven. A prominent figure on the Dutch techno scene, Tyrel launched his label Lessismore in 2003. Since then, he has released multiple albums on this label. Now he presents his latest release, “I Know You Know I Know”, an album full of smooth beats and easy grooves.
“Consuming Time” enchants with its metrical echoing hits overlaid with delicate piano and intermittent inharmonic sounds. The sound takes a heavier turn in “Challenging the Impossible” with a more pronounced beat and syncopated bass like truncated cello attacks. Distant synths play on top of the rhythmic background or interject suddenly as if emulating a voice. Celestial chords reverberate over insistent pulsations in “Einzelganger” followed by gently modulating repeated notes in “Timing out Zeus.”
“Floating point” returns to the aesthetic of the opening track with its elegant simplicity and fluctuating synth, but vamps up the bass and drums. Descending chords dance over the pulsing beat that forms the backbone of “Surfing Submerge” before being joined by dark synth bass and shimmering ornamentals. “Mansion at Oceandrive” begins with these same high arpeggios, fading into a mournful violin-like synth.
Lively percussion and syncopated chords once again take the forefront in “At the Beach” before they are overtaken by a plaintive melody. The last track by Tyrel, “Starlight of the Arabian Moonshine,” takes a more mysterious turn with its bounding bassline and minor and chromatic melodies.
In addition to Tyrel’s original tracks, the album contains a bonus remix by Funk D’ Void. The UK-born and Barcelona based producer’s version of “Starlight of the Arabian Moonshine” takes the final track into the space age with fat synths and a trepidatious melody. “I Know You Know I Know” leaves the listener blissed out yet compels them to move to its hypnotic beats.

Es miembro del equipo de Lessismore, por no decir que es el capo. Alexis Tyrel lleva más de dos décadas publicando con diversos seudónimos. Con tan solo 10 años se ‘infectó’ con ese virus por todos conocido que fue el sonido hardcore, según iba creciendo e iba sanando, Alexis siempre estuvo presente en la escena underground tanto como clubber, promotor, DJ y por supuesto haciendo sus pinos como productor. Unas veces más a las sombras, otras menos. Repetimos, Alexis Tyrel es uno de los tantos arrebatos de este personaje como artista.
Si bien el amigo Tyrel siempre se ha encontrado como pez en el agua en ese tipo de terrenos -los más underground posible- a la hora de degustar su música podríamos entrar en debates. También sobre su particular forma de pensar. La mente y las inquietudes de este bailongo confeso, asiduo a dar vida a los clubes tanto delante como detrás de la barrera, se han envalentonado a medida que pasaban los años. Quede clara que su labor investigando, explorando las diversas caras de la electrónica de baile, eso lo convierten en todo un experto en la materia. Como consumidor de música, como productor que se encierra largas horas en el estudio de grabación, así como responsable de fiestas clandestinas legendarias legales, que también ilegales.
Eso, en la primera década. En la segunda despuntó con su propio sello, el ya citado Lessismore, fundado en 2003 junto a XL y MBC. Sus producciones pronto cayeron en manos de artistas como Robert Hood, Ben Klock o Steve Rachmad, quienes no dudaron un instante en pincharlas. Además de en su santa casa Lessismore, Alexis Tyrel ha firmado con sellos como Kanzleramt, Sino o Nervous. Con labels de ese talante de por medio, no queda otra sino confirmar su estatus peleón, subversivo y underground.
A raíz de ese merecido boom, se sucedieron los viajes y las sesiones en clubes / eventos tan importantes e imprescindibles como Ostgut / Berghain, Tresor o Awakenings. Del mismo modo residencias en Extrema y One (Madrid) donde compartía cabina y BPM con la mítica Pelacha.
Más cosas. Tyrel fue siempre un fanático del electro puro, eso hasta que allá por 2006 lanzara en Weave Music el single “Rebecca Loos”. El tema se convirtió rápidamente en uno de los iconos del deep house minimalista y fue remezclado por un incipiente Gui Boratto. Desde ese mismo instante, la música de Alexis Tyrel comenzó a formar parte del universo de artistas como Luciano o Steve Bug. Pasaron los años y no fue hasta 2011 que Tyrel decidiese lanzar tu primer LP bajo ese seudónimo: “Newtradition”.
Es momento de encarar una nueva década, la tercera en su haber. Lo hace tras un merecido parón para descansar y reordenar ideas. Su reaparición fue hace unos meses con el también álbum “Return To Planet Alpha” (2017). El año pasado también, y durante el verano, el mítico sello belga Bonzai rememoró el exitoso “Rebecca Loos”, publicando un nuevo capítulo del mismo. Original y remix de Gui Boratto se volvieron a dar la mano, junto a ellos ese notabilísimo The Next Chapter del single.
Y ojo avizor, porque 2018 se presenta como uno de los retos más importantes de su carrera: tiene la insana intención de publicar hasta 10 álbumes, bien utilizando el aka que ya conocemos, o su otro ‘alter ego’ no menos importante… Gideon.

Lessismore team member Alexis Tyrel has been around under various names for more than two decades. At the age of 10 he got infected with the hardcore virus and has been present in the underground scene ever since as clubber, promotor, dj and producer, always keeping a low profile and working with a diverse selection of people. Alexis Tyrel is one of the so many concepts and outbursts of this artist.
Alexis Tyrel has always been underground although musically this can be debated, but he would say the same about your mindset. The first decade he spent most of his time as clubber, promotor and dj, investigating the diverse selection of electronic music and migrating from consumer to producer to fill a void in the everyday demand. This resulted in some legendary underground parties legal and illegal.
The second decade Lessismore was founded together with XL and MBC, which resulted in his first producer experience. His first releases were played by artists like Robert Hood, Ben Klock and Steve Rachmad, resulting in gigs at Ostgut/Berghain, Tresor and Awakenings and residencies at Extrema and One Madrid. When also outside labels like Kanzleramt, Sino and Nervous signed his music, his underground status was totally confirmed.
At that time Alexis Tyrel was a side alter ego which put his focus on electro, till the moment Rebecca Loos was released. This track, which can be seen as one of the early minimalistic deep house tracks, migrated his music in dj’s sets of artists like Luciano and Steve Bug. Around 2011 he released his first Album under Alexis Tyrel.
In the third decade after a long break, he started off with some prequel tracks on Lessismore and his second album called Return To Planet Alpha. The legendary and classic Belgium label Bonzai will release an earlier planted seed, let’s see where this takes us.
